CHRIST IS ABLE

TEXT: Philippians 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Are you ever unable to do something you want or need to do?
    1. We all have weaknesses, limitations, restrictions.
    2. Our feet are clay  sometimes our hands are unsteady, our abilities are weak.
  2. But the Bible affirms that "Christ is able"!
    1. That which we cannot do, He can! That which is beyond our power is not beyond His!
    2. Jesus Christ is sufficient for all we need in life and living.

I. CHRIST IS ABLE TO SUBDUE ALL THINGS TO HIMSELF

  1. TEXT: Phil. 3:21, whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
  2. This is His authority!
    1. Matt. 28:18
    2. Eph. 1:20-23 (read)
    3. John 6:63, It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
  3. Man must submit to His authority! 1 Cor. 15:23-28

II. CHRIST IS ABLE TO SAVE ALL WHO COME UNTO GOD BY HIM

  1. Hebrews 7:25, Whereby he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.
  2. This is Jesus mission:
    1. Luke 19:10, seek and save
    2. Romans 3:24-25, Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forebearance of God.
    3. 1 Peter 1:3-5, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
    4. Heb. 5:8-9, author of eternal salvation
    5. Mark 16:15-16, Go preach the gospel.shall be saved.

III. CHRIST IS ABLE TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE TEMPTED

  1. Hebrews 2:18, For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to aid those who are tempted.
  2. Temptation is the common lot of man, but Christ is able to help!
    1. 1 Cor. 10:13, There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
    2. Heb. 4:15-16, For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

IV.  ABLE TO KEEP THAT WHICH IS COMMITTED UNTO HIM!

  1. 2 Timothy 1:11-12, Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
  2. Man is fickle, but Christ is faithful!
    1. Heb. 2:17, Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
    2. Heb. 3:6, And Moses verily was faiththful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those which were to be spoken after; But Christ as a son over his own house; whos house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
    3. Rev. 1:5, Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth
  3. Christ gives us peace of mind!

CONCLUSION:

  1. Dont ever doubt: CHRIST IS ABLE!
  2. He is able to give us meaning and purpose to life, He is able to get us into fellowship with God and Gods people, He is able to make intercession on our behalf before the throne of His Father, He is able to raise our bodies from the grave, He is able to get us home to Heaven!
