THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA
TEXT: Revelation 22:13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
INTRODUCTION:
1. What is your definition of creation?
2. The Bible says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was
without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was
hovering over the face of the water” (Genesis 1:1-2).
3. One of the greatest problems we have today is determining what is right and wrong.
4. In our culture, morality is slipping away.
5. The lines which used to seem clear cut are hazy today.
6. What does the Bible teach about sin?

I. THE BEGINNING (ALPHA) OF SIN:
A. Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. For God knows that in the
day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and
evil." So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the
eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her
husband with her, and he ate” (Genesis 3:4-6).
B. Romans 5:6-13
C. Sin separates (Isaiah 59:1-2)
D. Sin is universal (Romans 3:23
E. So the first people found themselves separated from God (Genesis 3:9-13).

II. THE RESULT OF SIN:
A. Woman was punished with increase pain in childbirth.
B. The man was punished with increased toil and labor.
C. The serpent was punished with having to crawl on his stomach.
D. Satan was punished by the promise of a deliverer who would crush his head and deliver
mankind from his hold (Genesis 3:15).
IV. THE TRUE NATURE OF SIN
A. The seven meanings of sin:
1. Sin is transgression. Psalm 51:3
2. Sin is iniquity. Col. 3:5-9; Mark 7:20-23
3. Sin is disobedience. Eph. 5:6
4. Sin is missing the mark. Romans 3:23
5. Sin is trespassing. Eph. 2:1
6. Sin is ungodliness. Romans 4:5; 5:6
7. Sin is unbelief. Mark 9:24
B. What sin does to people. Romans 7; 1:32; Eph. 4:18-19
III. THE EXTENT OF SIN
A. All unrighteousness is sin. I John 5:17; Psalm 14:1
B. There are two classes of sin: Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
1. The open sins
2. The secret sins
C. The three forms in which sin appears. Mark 7:21-23
D. The totality of sin. Psalm 58:3-4
IV. THE INEVITABLE END (OMEGA) OF SIN
A. Wages is something we earn. Romans 6:23
B. Even as Christians we still sin. Heb. 12:6; I John 1:9

V. THE ONLY REMEDY FOR SIN
A. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Romans 1:16, Acts 4:12
B. What does the Gospel include?

1. You don't have to receive the rightful wages of sin.
2. Jesus received them for you and now you can be free.
